Community & Education

Volunteer Work

Alongside my professional work, I like to engage in community and education volunteering, using storytelling as a tool for empowerment, reflection and dialogue.

  • For the last two years I’ve been teaching a course titled Storytelling across Film, TV and Games at university level, which I deliver online for an underground university serving marginalised students in the Middle East who are denied access to formal higher education due to their religious beliefs.

  • I accompany a group of 12–15-year-olds in my local area in London through a junior youth empowerment programme that supports young people to develop a twofold sense of purpose: to grow intellectually, socially and spiritually, and to contribute positively to the transformation of their communities. Through the study of simple yet profound stories from around the world, they build skills such as critical thinking, ethical decision-making and confident self-expression.

  • I have recently been loving bringing people together for community discourse gatherings that explore how the arts can shape collective thinking, including a recent film screening and discussion as part of Counterpoints ArtsOur Shared Futures Climate Change and Migration Community Festival.
